THE TWO NEW REACTORS FURTHER INCREASE HUNGARY'S UNILATERAL ENERGY DEPENDENCY ON RUSSIA.

Hungary covers the majority (approx. 70%) of its energy needs by imports. 70-80% of oil and natural gas import comes from Russia, through pipelines controlled by Russia; and panels for the nuclear power plant are also imported from the same country. This unhealthy proportion is becoming worse by building a new Russian nuclear power station. Russia has already proven on a number of occasions that it uses its power in the energy export to blackmail other countries according to its own interests. Such an extent of energy dependency will restrict the sovereignty of our country.
